NSCL Offers Top Level Juniors Players Cricket Tournament
To say that cricket is popular in India like any other sport such as hockey or football would be the understatement of the century. Cricket is in India what football is in Brazil or baseball is in the USA. It is a de facto religion in India with the game transcending all levels of society in n terms of fervour and fanaticism. It commands a fanatical fan following in India and the whole country comes to a grinding halt the Men in Blue are clashing with a worthy opponent or rival. Millions of people glued to their television sets is enough to convince anybody that a cricket match is going on somewhere.
Success on the field ensures both name and fame for a player. Superstars are feted, revered and worshipped and beside the huge amount of money they make as their match fees and annual contract, there is many more millions to be made through endorsements, product promotion and advertisements.
To help budding cricketers nurture their skills and play national and international cricket, the National School Cricket League (NSCL) organizes franchise-based school cricket league for youngsters. It organizes junior cricket matches for youngsters between 12-18 years in the process providing them the ultimate platform to try and fulfil their cricket dreams. An initiative of the School Games Federation of India, the NSCL is a franchise-based school cricket league for youngsters between 12-18 years, which will be held at premier venues, post conducting a nation-wide talent hunt across India.
There are 16 teams/franchise in the junior players cricket tournament conducted by NSCL offering opportunities to 240 young and talented under-18 cricketers who will be selected from a Pan-India talent hunt conducted across 22 cities in 16 States. The 16 teams will battle it out in a T20-over format league to win the coveted trophy and a prize purse of INR 3.1-million. INR 2.1 million will be awarded to the winning team and INR 1.1 million to the runners-up in the league. The MVP/Player of the Tournament gets an opportunity to play in Minor County cricket. Merit and Participating Certificates will be given by SGFI to all the participants based on performance and merit.
